A little reassurance goes a long way
Your questions. Clear answers.
Understand what happens when you share a tip, how rewards work, and how you can support our community.
Will I be asked for my name?
No. You can share crime information without giving your name. Crime Stoppers does not use call display or call trace and does not record phone conversations.
How do rewards work?
If your information leads to an arrest, you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000. Rewards are subject to Board approval. Keep your private tip code and follow up to find out whether you are eligible.
How do I follow up without giving my identity?
Use the private tip code and any password you received when submitting. Return to P3 Tips or call 1-800-222-TIPS. Because we do not have your contact details, you need to initiate follow-up.
Can I submit a tip if I am the victim?
Crime Stoppers does not take tips from victims. Report directly to Durham Regional Police at 1-888-579-1520, or call 911 for an emergency or a crime in progress.
Are there limits to anonymity?
Anonymity protections have limits. They may be challenged where a tip is used to further criminal activity, interfere with justice, or frame an innocent person, or where disclosure is necessary to establish someone's innocence. Do not send sexually explicit images or video: these are forwarded to law enforcement and cannot be treated as an anonymous tip.
Can I send information through social media or email?
Please use P3 Tips or 1-800-222-TIPS for crime information. Social media comments, direct messages, and the Board's email are not anonymous tip channels.
Where does donation money go?
Community donations help fund approved tip rewards, program operations, and community awareness. You can give through CanadaHelps, support a fundraising event, or contact our Board about sponsorship.
